Quality certified by ISO
The ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is an international certification body with an established network in over 150 countries. Founded in 1947, ISO stipulates technical certification standards with the aim of guaranteeing that companies have an efficient and effective quality system.
ISO 9001
A standard aimed at improving the company processes related to the quality of the final products or services delivered. To achieve ISO 9001 certification, a series of requirements must be satisfied, including:
- maintaining controls and records concerning project traceability;
- measuring and monitoring processes using indicators;
- standardizing all processes related to the final product;
- conducting quality audits;
- ensuring that the company implements continuous improvement processes.
ISO 17100
A standard specifically developed for translation service providers, which complements other standards, such as ISO 9001. Under the standard, various requirements must be satisfied in the delivery of quality translation services, including:
- minimum qualifications required of translators and revisers;
- project management processes;
- linguistic quality assurance processes;
- data protection and recovery procedures.
ISO 18587
A standard aimed at translation service providers, their clients and post-editing reviewers, this standard is applicable only to content produced by machine translation (MT) systems.
ISO 18587 certification establishes that several requirements must be met for the delivery of MT services, including:
- provide the requirements for the complete and human post-editing process of the text produced via machine translation and the skills of the post-editing reviewers;
- define full post-editing and light post-editing;
- have the minimum educational and experience qualifications for reviewers;
- require training in the appropriate use of tools and error handling.
ISO and Terralíngua
Terralíngua has been ISO 9001 certified since 2010. Under this standard, the company is required to implement internal audits and undergo surveillance audits conducted by an international certification body on an annual basis.
In 2017, we also obtained ISO 17100 certification, demonstrating our efficiency in handling translation projects and the high quality of our work. The annual audits will now also encompass the latest certification in order to demonstrate Terralíngua's dedication and commitment to customer satisfaction and the continuous improvement of our processes.
ISO 17100 is intended for professional human translation only. Protocols related to machine translation (MT) are not included in the scope of this certification.
In response to industry changes and technology-related advances, Terralíngua obtained ISO 18587 certification in 2020. This certification includes quality assurance protocols for content generated by MT. Terralíngua uses professional automatic translation only for specific projects and clients, as needed. Clients are educated and made aware of the advantages and disadvantages of employing this method for translated content.
In practice, our adherence to standard protocols means the permanent adoption of a self-critical approach.
We continually seek improvement to offer better quality, reduce delivery times and minimize costs.
This creates a virtuous circle of reinvestment of time and resources, which results in growth for the company, better customer service and greater professional growth for employees.
Moreover, some ISO certifications are required for complying with various customers’ internal standards, in addition to demanding certification of suppliers.
Among the many benefits to the customer, ISO determines the correct method of recording work instructions and procedures, as well as other information related to providing services. Thus, customers know they will always receive the best possible service and according to their needs.
